Becoming Fine Art

Somehow we have become an animal home. Chloe Diane was our first rescue animal. She was  in a petting zoo traveling through West Texas during the beginning of July 2006. We first saw her fighting a rooster for water. The rooster was refusing to let any of the animals have any water, it was about 110 degrees and in the direct sun.  I was more than upset by the entire situation, I think the owner of the zoo was just as upset at the location he was given to hold the petting zoo during the festival, it was located in the direct sun with no shade at all for the animals. He was very happy to sell this little potbellied pig to us to save her from the heat.  She was only about 30 pounds when we got her and now she tops 300 pounds. She is truly a primadonna.  She loves to sing in the mornings to wake eveyone in the house up for feeding and outside time.

Next came Lila Mae. A friend sent me a link to an auction site in Dallas. This poor little pig had no ears and was captured running around Dallas. She was placed in the county holding area with all of the other loose livestock. She had her own cage, but her owners never came to claim her. I spoke with the caretaker and he told me that they actually had a pretty steady supplu of pot bellies there and they are auctioned off just like any of the farm animals. He also informed me that a lot of the pots end up as barbque. I put a bid in on her and was fortunate enough to win this little girl.  I don't know what her story is other than she was captured running around Dallas.
